Here you can find out what current and former students have to say about classes.
With the COVID-19 situation I thought I would have to take a break from sewing/patternmaking lessons but Sarah has moved to delivering lessons online. From my perspective it has been really successful and although I love going in to class this is the next best thing, and Sarah still makes learning easy.
My highlight of 2020 - Learning to Sew!
I had not touched a sewing machine until I started attending Sarah's workshop and now I can confidently sew! I am excited to now be learning basic pattern making techniques! I really am finding the time spent making handmade items to be very satisfying.
The classes have been great because they are composed of very small groups and I have progressed through structured activities at my own pace to develop overlocking and sewing skills. I am now very pleased to be working on my first dressmaking project and pursuing a developing area of interest. Sarah is such a talented instructor that she is able to lead a dynamic learning environment that caters to individual interests, differences and abilities.
My learning has not been impacted throughout the introduction of social distancing measures. Sarah has started online classes using Zoom (which is intuitive and easy to use), and ensures that I have what I need before my lessons. I am currently enjoying working away on my dining table at home.
Though different in some ways, the online session with Sarah still enabled me to learn and create. Sarah’s lovely manner and patience helped create new ways of learning. I found Sarah accommodated learning by creating samples on hand and clearly instructing me what to do with what! I look forward to having a lesson face to face but in the meantime Sarah has done her best to accommodate with an awful situation and meet the Government guidelines.
Not so much a class, as sewing with a really knowledgeable and helpful friend.
I have always wanted to make my own clothes, and since Sew Like Sarah I’ve had the skills and confidence to do so. What’s so great about the classes is the fact that it’s not a set course that covers stuff you aren’t interested in. It’s personalised. What you want to learn is what you are taught.
I like the classes because there is never more than 4 people. Sarah teaches you what you want to learn & also explains the tricks of the trade in industry and couture techniques. It's down to business in the class mixed with fun as you learn. Highly recommend Sarah if you want results.
I needed to do a prom dress for a cruise that hubby and I were going on. I could put it together but wanted it to look fantastic and Sarah helped me do exactly that. Sarah is a lovely lady who takes the time and answers all questions you may have. I’m enjoying classes with her.
One thing I really enjoyed about your lessons was the new skills you taught me - about fitting a commercial pattern to suit my figure. The project I worked on was a beautiful embroidered denim jacket, which was fully lined. This has become a favourite item in my wardrobe and I intend to make other jackets with variations of this style. I really liked the individual attention that I received.
Loved the small class environment and personalised tuition in a great learning space. Many thanks to Sarah for helping me to learn how to use my sewing machine and for demystifying overlockers.
She is very passionate about pattern making, very inspiring. After a 3 hour session, I returned home with more energy than I came with. Thanks Sarah, you are great.
I learned so much from Sarah and working with her was extremly motivating. Designing my very own shorts was tricky, but thanks to Sarah I did it and am really proud of me. There will be many more following after this one! Thank you Sarah - keep it up!
In patternmaking, Sarah communicates with us and shows us what to do step by step.I think she is a really effective teacher.
